Keymaster: The Most Fun Thing In Sneakers Right Now

maxresdefault

Everyone loves a good game of chance. Something that’s low-risk and high reward. Something that involves some skill … but mostly just a lot of luck. That something in the sneaker game is the Keymaster arcade machine.

First popularized by Las Vegas’s Urban Necessities, the Keymaster is a game in which you attempt to fit a key through a slot to drop a prize down. It was usually stocked with things like iPads and expensive headphones, but rare sneakers make great prizes too, so the Keymaster has popped up in forwards-thinking sneaker boutiques across the country. read more

Pharrell’s “Human Race” NMD’s: A Shoe With A Message

pharrell-adidas-nmd-hu-release-reminder-1

Pharrell Williams has the magic touch. Anything he does, from music to clothes to cologne to shoes is tasteful, artistic, and unique. He’s got a knack for creating dope product with a meaning … and he’s hit the nail on the head yet again with his latest collaborative effort with Adidas, the “Human Race” NMD’s dropping today.

Each of the five pairs that are releasing are adorned with a split slogan, from “Human Being” to “Hu Race”, and Pharrell himself has said that he sees the shoes (and the accompanying collaborative apparel) as a project to explore humanity and celebrate cultural diversity. Here’s his direct thoughts on the project: read more

Temporary Flex: LSWOP Will Let You Rent Yeezys

yeezy-350-boost-v2-on-foot-04

Ever seen someone with a pair of Yeezys on and gotten jealous?

They walk by, looking all fly, and all you can think is “Damn, I wish I had a pair of those”. Maybe you don’t because Lady Luck is never on your side during drops. Maybe you don’t because you don’t want to pay resell. Maybe you don’t because you’re not really about this life. Whatever the reason is that you don’t have them … you’re likely sore about it and wish you did. We understand. Hype can be a powerful thing. read more

Shattered Backboard I’s And XXXI’s: A Great Start To Jordan’s Holiday Releases

jordan-shattered-backboard-2016

Jordan Brand has always done a great job telling stories with colorways of their shoes. They manage to find different ways to honor Michael Jordan’s accomplishments with almost every product they put out … and the “Shattered Backboard” shoes are no exception.

You probably heard the story when the first colorway dropped last year, but in the event you haven’t, we’ll run it by you again. During a Nike exhibition game in 1985 (can you imagine something like that happening today? Times have definitely changed), Michael Jordan broke a backboard with a furious dunk on a fast break. His team happened to be wearing orange jerseys … so that provided the initial inspiration for the shoe. Here’s the video below if you haven’t seen it. read more

Sunday Sneaker Ramblings Vol XII

It’s been quite a while.

We’re back, with the 12th edition of Sunday Sneaker Ramblings, where I share my brief thoughts on everything that went on in the sneaker world this past week. There’s a lot to discuss, so let’s cut the intro short and jump right into it.

adidas-yeezy-boost-350-v2-september-release-1-681x447

We’ve got to start off with the Yeezys. We talked about them yesterday, but as release day is finally over, we can look back. Not much has changed from the first season: instant online sellouts, lots of whining and complaining about raffle fuckery (yeah, it sucks but it’s part of the game. Don’t get mad, get a better plug). I personally didn’t cop a pair, but they’re amazing in person and significantly more comfortable than the V1’s. For the vast minority who don’t plan to resell, these are a great fall sneaker and you should rock them heavy. read more

another-yeezy-post-4

The day’s finally here.

The day every hypebeast, fashionista, sneakerhead, Kanye fan, reseller, and wanna-be cool guy has been waiting for. Yes, it’s release day for the Yeezy Boost 350 V2.

There’s a good chance you didn’t cook on any in-store raffles (and if you did, good for you! Your luck must really be great). However, you’ve got one more chance before you either give up or drain your savings account to pay resell: there are a few online releases today, and we’ve listed them right below read more

Are The OVO XII’s Finally Dropping Soon?

jordan-12-ovo-white-873864-102

Over the past several months, the Jordan OVO XII’s have been a hot topic of conversation. A shoe that seems to get delayed over and over again and has never really had a solid release date, sneakerheads and Drake fanboys (there’s more overlap than you might think) always seem to be discussing when the shoe might be dropping, and what they hope it’ll look like. Well now they don’t have to wonder about the latter anymore.

The first official images of the OVO XII’s (and the shoe’s style number) hit the Web earlier this week, leading to speculation that we’ll see a release sometime in the next few months (the current popular rumor is early 2017). read more

PSA: Try A Disposable Camera

ruin

Photography: a hobby/passion/profession that’s very fun and very challenging. No matter how much you may know, there’s always something new to learn. A new angle to shoot from. A new exposure you can use. A cool new way to work a shadow into your picture you may not have thought of before. It’s always evolving and changing, and there’s always something dope you can think of.

However, shooting with a high-end DSLR camera isn’t for everyone. Some can’t afford it (it is expensive). Some don’t have the time to learn how to properly use it. Some are intimidated by everything you can do with one. And some people who do love shooting with DSLR’s want a change of pace every so often to keep things fresh. read more

Over their 20+ years in the game, Supreme has worked on an extensive list of collaborations with brands from Bape to Doc Martins to Comme Des Garcons to Brooklyn Machine Works. Some of these collaborations are a one-and-done kind of deal … and some continue season after season.

Last year, Supreme collaborated with with Jun Takahashi’s legendary brand Undercover for the first time. The collaborative product was well-received, and after seeing this season’s offerings, we’ve gotta say … we hope their efforts continue on and on. read more

Ronnie Fieg Is Unstoppable

It’s official: Summer’s over, and fall is upon us.

Starting in June and ending in August, I took Polaroids of my friends (or enlisted them to take one if I’m in the picture) on a Fujifilm Instax Mini 8. They may be made into a book within the next few months, but I thought it only right to premiere them right here on KicksOneTwo  These are the faces of Summer Sixteen in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Top 5 Sneaker Releases This Weekend

screen-shot-2016-09-16-at-12-54-32-am

What a crazy week in sneakers.

It’s Friday. The weekend isn’t even upon us yet, and we’ve already been blessed with some dumb fire, courtesy of Nike x Supreme (Blazers), and Nike x Acronym (Prestos).

That’s just the tip of the iceberg though. This weekend is one of the most loaded sneaker release weekends in recent memory with collabs and premium releases galore dropping … so you already know we had to rank our 5 favorites. We’ve gotta say: in all our years of ranking jawns we’ve never had this much difficulty creating a list, but we somehow managed to make the tough decisions and narrow all the releases down to just 5. Let’s get right to it. read more

A Fond Farewell To The Triple White Ultra Boost

dsc06010-edit

The Triple White Ultra Boost: a shoe that truly never shows any signs of slowing down. It’ll restock, sell out, restock, sell out again, restock again, sell out again. It’s fall now, and the temperature is getting cooler which usually means it’s time to put the white kicks away, but you still see that all-white Ultra Boost everywhere you go.

Well, all good things (and fire jawns) must come to an end sooner or later. Adidas has announced that the Triple Whites will restock one last time on their online store this month … and then they’ll be done, as the Three Stripes will be moving on to whatever new fire they’ve got coming out. read more

Verne Troyer Unboxing His Yeezy 350’s Is The Best Thing You’ll See All Week

yeezy-boost-350-infant-verne-troyer

We love the Austin Powers series here at KicksOneTwo. The crazy, over-sexualized spy has brought us a lot of laughs, and so has his supporting cast of characters, like Fat Bastard and Mini-Me. The movies were a large part of our childhood, so any time someone from the films is in the news, we like to see what’s going on

So you already know we were in for a treat this week when we saw that Mini-Me himself, Verne Troyer, was sent a pair of Yeezy 350 Boosts (in infant sizes, of course … he is Mini-Me after all), we couldn’t wait to see the video for ourselves. read more

TONIGHT: “Kithland”, Kith’s First Ever Runway Show

kith-kithland-fashion-show-nyfw-00

We love Kith here at KicksOneTwo. Their aesthetic is sporty yet clean and refined, they crank out consistently good product year after year, and they’re always cooking up crazy collabs, like their recently announced Bergdorf Goodman partnership, consisting of a Kith shop within the legendary store, and a co-branded line of apparel. Ronnie Fieg stays winning, and despite all the naysayers … he can do no wrong.

So, needless to say, we were thrilled when the news broke that Kith would be hosting their first-ever runway show, “Kithland” during New York Fashion week. We were even more stoked when it was announced that Kithland would be live-streamed on the Kith website for those of us not lucky enough to be in New York for the event. read more

A Salute To Allen Iverson

allen-iverson-2014-pictures

My favorite basketball player of all time was elected to the Hall Of Fame last week.

Allen Ezail Iverson, legendary for his heart, scoring ability, and deadly crossover has taken his rightful place in a shrine reserved for the greatest to ever play the game.

Anyone who’s seen him play knows: there was nothing like him before, and there will be nothing like him again. He was always on the attack, moving 100 miles an hour even when he was clearly exhausted. He had the heart of a lion, going right at men who were bigger and stronger than he was. If he couldn’t go through them, he’d go around them. He had an uncanny ability to create space and get to the hoop. read more

The New Yeezy Cleats Are A Game-Changer

screen-shot-2016-09-09-at-11-09-34-pm

Adidas and Kanye West have done it yet again.

On the eve of the 2016-17 NFL season, some of Adidas’s top football players were blessed with Yeezy cleats that sent the Internet and the sneaker world into a frenzy. Von Miller was the first to break the news, as he was blessed with a 750 cleat. DeAndre Hopkins and Adrian Peterson were also gifted with cleats, however theirs were of the low-top 350 variety.

This is a big deal. A very big deal. It’s much more than just some cool Yeezy cleats. This is Adidas’s first step towards integrating Kanye’s designs into their performance products … and they look absolutely great.  The 750 is perfect for a strong defensive player like Miller, and the 350 looks ideal for the speed of Hopkins and the quickness of Adrian Peterson. read more

Two Must-Attend September Events

September: an interesting month. School’s back in full swing. Football’s just starting up. Summer is mostly over, and fall is just starting. You haven’t quite retired your summer sneaker rotation, but you haven’t quite broken out the fall rotation yet. It’s a month of transition.

And this year, with that transition comes two great events for sneakerheads, fashionistas, musicians, artists, and anyone else who’s looking to link with like-minded individuals, make connections, and have a great time: Piff’s Fall Festival block party, and Studiiyo23’s TSCAX8. read more

Nike Roshe Two: Still Trash

nike-roshe-two-12-colorway-preview-02

We’re not big fans of the Roshe here at KicksOneTwo. Sure, it was cool when it first came out, but it became totally and completely washed faster than any other shoe ever. The Roshe is to sneakers what Been Trill is to clothing (you know that’s a true statement). We drag it on Twitter. We joke about it in person. We  even use it for batting practice.

So you already know we were licking our chops at the prospect of new comedic material when the Roshe Two was announced … and Nike didn’t let us down one bit. Newsflash: still trash (see what we did there?). It looks like a neoprene foot condom. It looks like a duck foot. If it was a video game, it would be Trash Bandicoot. It looks like something you might want to wear with your straight-leg pants and oversized button down. It looks like … well, you get the picture. read more

TODAY: Yeezy Season 4 Live Stream On Tidal

screen-shot-2016-09-06-at-11-0

It’s a big day for the culture today. There’s a Supreme drop, featuring a Dash Snow collab. Palace has a drop in the evening. And most importantly, Kanye West’s Yeezy Season 4 show will be premiering live on Tidal at 3PM ET (that’s 2 PM Minneapolis time for those of you who don’t understand time zones).

No matter if you love or hate ‘Ye, you can’t deny that his Yeezy Season shows are a big deal. The industry turns out en masse, and it seems that the whole world stops what they’re doing to watch his fashion shows. There’s a lot of controversy surrounding this one, as the Internet seems to be in an uproar over his casting call for “bi-racial models”, and he’ll be premiering his much-discussed kids line as well. read more

Artist Merch: A Wave That Cannot Be Stopped

kanye-west-yeezy-3-life-of-pablo-event-2016-billboard-650

Tour merch used to not be a big deal. You’d go see an artist you liked in concert, and you might just buy yourself a t-shirt from their merch stand if you liked them enough. Maybe if you were a really big fan, you’d head over to their website and grab yourself some merch on there. It wasn’t really a fashion statement of any sort, you’d just wear it because you liked the artist.

Oh, how things have changed. Starting with Kanye’s “Yeezus” tour merch, the demand for artist goods has increased tenfold. Tour merch is limited. It resells for high prices. It sells out right away, and is not easy to get anymore. Justin Bieber’s “Purpose Tour” merch was designed by Jerry Lorenzo and had a pop-up at VFILES. Travis Scott just announced his new merch line will consist of 60 (that’s right, 60) pieces. Kanye’s Pablo line has been so successful that people line up for hours to buy it at pop-up shops all over the world. read more

Raffle Pick-Up Times: What’s Reasonable?

You’re probably heading to the mall for one of two reasons today.

The first reason is a good one. You won a raffle for the Bred I’s, and you’re going in to buy your pair. The second reason? Not such a good one. You’re going to the mall in the hope that someone who won the raffle won’t be picking up their pair. Believe us, we understand the need to take a second shot at getting your hands on a pair, but it’s no fun. You’re standing there waiting, hoping that somebody, anybody, doesn’t come claim their shoes so you can grab them instead. Boost All Year: The Ultra Boost ATR Is Here For The Fall/Winter

adidas-ultra-boost-atr-grey-maroon-1

We’re damn near 3/4 of the way done with 2016 already (can you believe it?), and through all the ups and downs of the sneaker year, and all the trends that came and went, one shoe that remained steadfastly dope was the Ultra Boost. The new 2.0 version rolled out with a myriad different colors and Continental rubber bottoms for increased durability, making the Ultra Boost one of the hottest shoes of the year.

But as anyone who has owned or currently owns a pair knows, they’re not the most hardy shoes in the world. They are runners after all, and they’re not really designed to take a beating in the winter months. Thankfully, Adidas knows this and has designed an Ultra Boost ATR, a shoe designed for more inclement conditions that. read more
