What’s really good everyone??
Another month is in the books, and we thought it was time to come back at you with another edition of “What We’ve Been Up To”. A lot has been happening for the both of us in the last few weeks, so it’s only right that we keep you up to speed with everything that’s going on over here at KicksOneTwo and our other ventures. Without further ado, let the updating begin.
All kinds of good stuff going on over here since we last touched base. Bobby and I are still plugging away here to bring you fresh content at 8AM every day. I realized a few days back that it’s been just a little over a year and a half since I started the site, and I’ve got to say…I’m damn proud of the fact that there’s been fresh content on here every single day. Get up, drink your coffee, read some KicksOneTwo. Daily routine. That’s some wavy shit. We’ve got some new Starting Fives and other dope content coming soon, so be sure to stay tuned.
If you’re buying or selling sneakers locally, you are probably going to meet up with somebody to take care of the transaction. There are numerous things that can go wrong with a face-to-face meetup, so in order to ensure your next meetup is a smooth one, take these steps:
Make sure the other person isn’t shady
– Do some research on the other person. Don’t go full stalker, but a quick look at his or her Facebook profile won’t hurt. If they have references, run a legit check.
For today’s edition of Music Mondays, we bring you a song that’s accompanied by one of our favorite music videos in quite a while. Here’s “$ave Dat Money” by Lil Dicky featuring Fetty Wap and Rich Homie Quan.
It’s that time again…that time for another edition of Sunday Sneaker Ramblings. I’m sitting here enjoying a nice hot cup of coffee (out of a Kith mug of course, as anything else would be uncivilized), and I feel like sharing my thoughts on what’s been going on in the sneaker world this week.
Let’s start off with the OVO VIII’s, of which a few images were leaked this week.
With the hype from the OVO X’s still lingering, and the buzz around Drake palpable as ever with the release of “What A Time To Be Alive”, the OVO VIII’s lit up the sneaker world when images leaked this past week. No word on any release date (or really any concrete info on the shoes themselves at all), but this clean black VIII with red and gold accents and what appears to be super-premium leather will whip the sneaker world into a frenzy. I’ll definitely be trying to cop.
Everyone wants quality nowadays. Whether you’re in the market for a new pair of kicks, a new car, or a delicious lunch at a fancy-ass restaurant, quality is important. You’ll normally pay extra to get something that’s of a higher caliber and will last longer than the cheaper alternative.
So you don’t mind paying extra for something that’ll last. Great. Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, allow me to present a radical though to you: have you ever considered investing in high-quality pieces for your wardrobe?
We’ve got a weekend full of heat ahead of us (we even listed what day each shoe is dropping in the descriptions), and the time is right for another edition of Top 5 Sneaker Releases This Weekend. Get your credit cards, Paypal accounts, and bots ready to go. Let’s get right into it.
5. Bait x Asics Gel Lyte III “Nightmare” (Saturday)
Longtime Asics collaborator Bait comes correct with their latest Gel Lyte III. Featuring an upper constructed of premium materials, subtle hits of 3M, and a speckled midsole/translucent outsole, this is one of the cleanest Gel Lyte III collaborations in recent memory.
Yeah, I’m plugging again (cue Drake and Future’s “I’m The Plug). If you already follow the KicksOneTwo Instagram, thank you. Your support is greatly appreciated, and you can move on to another article. Feel free to read about the head-to head battle between Kanye and Drake’s recent sneaker releases, or the top 5 episodes of Sneaker Shopping. They’re just a little ways down the page.
If you don’t follow the KicksOneTwo Instagram, have a seat. I’m going to let you know exactly why you should (in great detail nonetheless).
As many of you know, it’s the year of the Voss Boy. We’ve been out here staying hydrated by sipping on ice-cold Voss for a while now, and everyday more people are catching on. (Shoutout to everyone who sends me pictures of them drinking Voss. Keep ’em coming!!).
One of the reasons why Voss is so good, besides the fact that it’s unbelievably clean and fresh, is due to it’s rarity. (Voss Boys are very, very rare). You can’t expect to walk in to any old store and find Voss fully stocked. When I first started drinking Voss, it took me a little while to find a store close to me that carried Voss. Cub Foods, Super America, Walmart, and other local stores all did not have any Voss in stock. I was pumped once I finally found a store that carried it.
It’s a battle for the ages. David and Goliath. Gatti and Ward. Hobbs and Whammer. The Yeezy 350 Boost and the OVO X.
This is like Celebrity Deathmatch, except we’re comparing sneakers instead of the celebrities themselves. In the red corner, we’ve got Kanye West‘s Adidas Yeezy 350 Boost. In the blue corner, we’ve got Drake‘s Jordan OVO X. They’ll go head to head for four rounds (four important categories: materials, comfort, wearability, and cultural significance), and only after that will a winner emerge. Alright, enough with the boxing analogies, let’s get to the first category in our sneaker showdown.
For this edition of Music Mondays, we bring you a banger from Casey Veggies. Here’s “Anybody”.
Editor’s note: It seems like everyone’s talking about Drake and Future’s “What A Time To Be Alive” tape, so we thought it was only right to bring you something different. Be sure to check out (and buy) the project in the unlikely event you haven’t heard it yet!
It was a wonderful day, filled with sneakers, music, art, good food, good people, and excellent weather.
TCSAX 6 (the first ever outdoor TCSAX) went down behind Studiiyo23 yesterday, and it was one for the books. I’m proud to say that I’ve been to every single TCSAX (I’ve actually still got the shirt from the very first one), and this one just might have been the best one yet.
Why’s that, you might ask? It’s simple. The positive, upbeat, welcoming vibe that TCSAX has always been known for seemed to be even more prevalent than usual. Sure, packing the Cabooze is dope, and throwing an event in the Target Center is a big milestone for any business, but nothing beats shutting down a city street for the day to bring the community together.
Today’s the day.
Studiiyo23 is hosting the 6th installment of their Sneaker Art Xchange (TCSAX for short) from 12PM-6PM today, and it’s gearing up to be the best one yet. With sneakers, art, food, and music, there’s something for everyone.
KicksOneTwo has been in attendance at every single TCSAX to date, so we felt it was only right to give you a quick guide on how to have the best possible time. From what you can eat to what music you’ll get to listen to..we’ve got you covered. Read on, and find out everything you need to know about the premiere sneaker event in the Twin Cities!
It’s the third Friday of the month, so you already know it’s time for the Foolish Bastard Family to take over the Kitty Cat Klub for their monthly residency. Foolish OG’s BVCKWOODS, Sajnt, and Connye will be spinning, and Spencer Joles will rock the mic as well. Doors are at 9 PM, and as usual, it’s only $3 to get in. Check the flyer below for more info, and be sure to stop through for what’s guaranteed to be a wavy evening.
YEEZY SZN 2.
I spent the majority of Wednesday refreshing my email in hopes of receiving tickets to the Minneapolis Yeezy Season 2 showing. I finally got them later in the night (along with everyone else from Minnesota) and I was amped. Even though I had no clue what to expect, and had numerous questions since the whole event seemed rushed and very last minute, I was still excited to go.
We were granted a plus one, and my dad had expressed interested in going, so I decided to bring him along. He’s not the biggest Kanye fan, and he doesn’t like rap music at all, so I wasn’t sure what he would think, but I figured it would be interesting to get someone who wasn’t immersed in the culture’s thoughts on the show.
We’re sneaker guys. It’s in our blood. It’s what we do. There’s no part of an outfit that we love more than a crispy pair of kicks. We dress from the feet up each and every day, and we’re damn proud of it.
The only issue with this is that sometimes we love our kicks a little bit too much, and the rest of our outfit gets neglected. There are far too many sneakerheads that rock fire pairs with terrible outfits on a daily basis, and I’d like to help change that, seeing as I haven’t had a shitty fit in years (yeah, that was cocky, but anyone who knows me will tell you it’s true).
Here at KicksOneTwo, we greatly enjoy any sneaker-related videos, and one of our favorite series is Complex‘s “Sneaker Shopping”. If you haven’t seen the show before, the concept is pretty straightforwards: Various celebrities go shopping for kicks with Complex’s own Joe La Puma, talk a little shop, and then grab a few pairs.
It’s a fun and easy way to see who knows what about shoes (some know a lot, some know nothing at all), and it also doubles as an enjoyable casual interview, as whoever is shopping for their kicks is usually relaxed and in a relatively benign mood.
For this edition of Music Mondays , we bring you a banger from Cousin Stizz. Here’s “Dirty Bands”.
The OVO X’s dropped this weekend. If you were within 5 feet of a computer at any point this weekend, you most likely saw for yourself. The sneaker world went crazy, the few stores that did get the shoes had to raffle (of course) and NDC sold its stock in a mere matter of seconds (of course).
Seems like just another hyped-up release, right? Well that’s the case for the most part, but one shop that received the shoes made the release memorable for another reason.
“What shop, and what did they do?” you might be asking yourself. The shop is Sneaker Politics, a Louisiana sneaker store with three different locations, and what they did was make anyone who wanted to purchase the shoe wear it out of the store. This is great for many different reasons.
Maybe you love him. Maybe you hate him. Maybe you think he’s a genius. Maybe you think he’s a blithering idiot.
Yes, we’re talking about Kanye West here, more specifically the shoes that he’s designed. His influence reaches far and wide over the sneaker landscape, and every single shoe that he’s put out has sold out almost instantly. There’s few others that have the level of sway (YOU AIN’T GOT THE ANSWERS!!!) Yeezy has in the sneaker game, and as so, it’s only right that we rank his sneaker collars, from worst to best. We’ll even provide a little background info on each shoe for those who might not know their stories. Keep in mind we’re ranking the individual models (both signature shoes and collars), not the specific color ways. It’s also our personal opinion, so feel free to agree or disagree as you see fit. Let’s get it!
We’re hyped over here at KicksOneTwo.
This past Tuesday, Logic announced his sophomore album, The Incredible True Story, via a short YouTube video. The video shows Logic in a sci-fi rocket ship enviroment, clad in a NASA-approved bomber, going off on a soundboard to one of the dopest beats I’ve heard in a while. The phrase, “I am the greatest” is repeated multiple times in the sampling of what is sure to be a banger of a track on the new album.
We’ve been waiting for this album announcement for a while now, so we’re very exited to hear that it’s going to be coming out sometime this fall.
We’re all about peace, love, and positivity here at KicksOneTwo, (word to Logic), but we’re also not afraid to toss some shade when needed. Granted, if I wasn’t applying for Nike in a few weeks, this article’s word choice would be a little bit different, but that aside I have some beef with them.
First: the pair of Free Flyknit 4.0’s I sent to their claims department. On both of the shoes, the rubber on the toe was worn down pretty badly. I’ve never had this happen to me before so I decided to send them in to see if I could get a product voucher. What did I have to lose, right?
Bots. The scourge of the online sneaker game. They’ll steal your prized shoes from right under your nose, and it won’t matter how quick your fingers are because they’re faster. Joe Sneakerhead missed out on the last ten limited releases because he can’t beat bots, and you’ve likely ran into the same problem at least once or twice in your sneaker buying experience.
However, Nike is aiming to put an end to the pestilence that is the online sneaker bot with their new raffle system. Here’s a quick rundown on how it works: you enter an online drawing, and if you win, you can either pick up the shoes at a nearby Nike store location or have them shipped to your house. The speed of entry is no longer important, therefore negating one of the biggest advantages of having a bot. It’s the same system they’ve been using for in-store releases, rolled out to online purchasing.
I’ve loved hip-hop for as long as I can remember. My dad always played the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, and the Who when I was a young whippersnapper (always wanted to use that word on here), but the first time I heard 50 Cent and Eminem on the radio, I was hooked on hip-hop and I haven’t looked back since. Everything from legends like Biggie and Pac to today’s stars like Kendrick, Drake and Cole to colorful characters like Action Bronson and Tyler, The Creator to internet rappers with a growing buzz like Keith Ape or Playboi Carti….I’m with it.
For this edition of Music Mondays, we bring you one of our favorite tracks off of Rodeo, Travi$ Scott‘s new album. Here’s “Maria I’m Drunk” featuring Justin Bieber and Young Thug.
We’re back with the third edition of Sunday Sneaker Ramblings, and we’ve got a lot to talk about this week.
First things first: YEEZY. Kanye provided highlight after highlight at the VMA’s, from giving an epic speech, to announcing he was running for president, to debuting a crazy new tan color.way of the Yeezy Boost 350. No word on when they’ll drop yet, but apart from the grey pair, these are the best 350 Boosts yet.
Second: yesterday’s Jordan release, the Anthracite IX’s. You’d think sneakerheads would be going crazy over this release as it’s essentially the highly coveted Oregon XI without any Oregon branding. It’s a simple and clean shoe, and the nubuck on the upper is surprisingly nice for a Jordan release. However, there are full size runs sitting at most retailers (hit Finish Line or Eastbay to cop a pair if you’re so inclined).
The majority of us have that one shoe that we all love. The go-to. For Ross, it’s the Jordan 1. For the homie Titus, it’s the KD 4. For myself, it’s the Kobe 8. (Although, this statement may not be 100% correct. I’ll elaborate later). The fact of the matter is that once you find your go-to sneaker, you want to cop more colorways of that silhouette. Nothing wrong with having a pair for every fit. However, is there a point where it gets to be too much? Is rocking a different colorway of the same shoe everyday a good idea?
It’s going down tonight.
BLVCK SPVCE is headlining a show at the Triple Rock, and they’re bringing Nick Travae and Finding Novyon along with them too. Come close out summer with a bang tonight, and enjoy some wavy music. Check out the Facebook event page for more info, listen to the tracks below if you need to get familiar before the show and click here to grab your tickets. See you all tonight!
This isn’t an article about sneakers.
It’s about individual style, more specifically how important it is to be unique in your personal style. I was kicking around the web searching for inspiration (like usual) when I came across this meme.
Pretty amusing, right? To be completely honest, when I first saw this meme, it gave me a good chuckle. I threw it up on Twitter, shot it over to a couple friends that I thought would find it amusing, and went on with my day.
However, later in the week when I was talking with a few knowledgable (and fresh) friends about clothing, a theme in our discussion seemed to be how one’s personal style gets better the more unique it is.
Yesterday was Bobby’s birthday. The big 18. He can now legally smoke (I’m guessing he’ll develop a fondness for grape Swishers or watermelon Phillies), buy lottery tickets (if someone hits the Powerball, grab me a pair of 750 Boosts and Royal I’s please) and go to the casino (remember the first time you walked into a casino? Was it not the dopest thing you’d ever seen at the time?)
I offered him the chance to write a self-serving birthday post, but as we’re both the type of people who don’t like amping our birthdays, he didn’t want to..so I’m doing it.
It’s September already. Summer is in its final throes, and fall is almost upon us. Although this means you’ll have many more options for your outfit (better make sure that layering game is A1!), it also means that there’s going to be a higher chance you’ll mess your kicks up.
Here at KicksOneTwo, we’re firm believers in wearing your shoes. That’s why you bought them after all, right? However, that doesn’t mean we like letting them get dirty and beat up before their time. With that in mind, we decided to bless you with some helpful tips on how to keep your kicks as clean as possible. Let’s get right into it.
