The Thirst Is Real: Everyone Loves The Jordan I

If you were in the market for a pair of “Chicago” Jordan I’s this weekend, you already know how it went. Everyone from your friends to your neighbor’s mother to your 7th grade math teacher were in the market for a pair. The promise of remastered quality on a classic sneaker was hard for even the most casual sneakerhead to ignore.

The hype was so real that Nike even canceled the online release (along with the release of the “Pinnacle” I’s) to ensure that they weren’t all snapped up by bots. Sizes were very limited in Minnesota, and those lucky folks with winning raffle tickets must have felt like they were holding a Golden Ticket for Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. read more

Last week Soundset took over the Twin Cities, bringing with it all kinds of artists and hip-hop aficionados including Sway Calloway, who was in town to host the event.

Sway has been known to do a live broadcast from Fifth Element when he’s in town, and this year was no exception. He hosted several interviews, and held another Minnesota mega cypher.

What makes this year’s cypher special though is KicksOneTwo homies GoodKarmaNiles, 1990, and RP Hooks of BLVCK SPVCE got their turns on the mic. Check the video below for all the flames that your speakers can handle (BLVCK SPVCE starts around the 8:30 mark). read more

I Put Andrew Zimmern On To Kith

It’s story time.

Yes, I’m taking it back to preschool and telling a story. It involves a Travel Channel show host and a dope brand out of New York City. It’s fairly short, and pretty funny, and without further ado, I’ll get right to it.

As many readers of this site know, I’m a manager at a sneaker store. Which sneaker store I’m a manager of is not important. If you know me personally, you already know which store it is, and if you don’t you’ll probably run across me sooner or later. read more

Jogger Pants: Are They Still Relevant?

The jogger pant. An essential in many wardobes. Goes great with all kinds of kicks.

Yes, the jogger pant is a staple piece in street and sneaker culture. But where do they stand? A few years back, they were a must-have item. Nowadays everyone from Abercrombie to True Religion makes them, and you can find them on clearance at your local TJ Maxx or Marshalls.

The question then arises: Are they still relevant? Do they have the same pull they did back when they came storming on the scene? It’s an interesting question, and one that deserves further investigating. read more

Starting Five: Jessica Yeang

It’s back, and it’s better than ever. You read the title right, we’ve got an all-new Starting Five for you, featuring one of the waviest female sneakerheads in Minnesota,  our girl Jessica. What I’ve Been Doing Recently Part III

What’s good, everyone?

It’s been a little over two weeks, so I figured the time was right for another update on what’s been going on.

I’m still cranking out dopeness over at KLX, and have written two more articles for them since my last update, one on travel essentials, and one on the new (and hilarious) Dipset home goods line. Yes, there is a Dipset home goods line. I can hardly believe it myself. The links to both articles are below if you’d like to check them out.

Expanding Horizons

I think it’s time to expand my horizons, as far as writing goes.

“What are you talking about?” you may be saying. “What do you mean, expand your horizons?”

It’s actually pretty simple. I’m just going to write about more topics when it strikes my fancy.

When I started this website over a year ago, I wanted to create a place on the internet that produced content that was relative to the Twin Cities sneaker head. Everyone from the die-hard collector to the kid with a passing interest in sneakers would be able to read and enjoy any of the content on the page. This is still the mission. read more

Studiiyo23 Won A “Best Of Minneapolis” Award

You read it right. The good folks over at Studiiyo23 won a “Best Of Minneapolis” award in the fashion category from the Minneapolis Award Program. Awards are given out every year to businesses that have achieved “exceptional marketing success in their local community and business category”. The full press release is available here if you’d like to read it.

This a big deal for our still-growing local sneaker community. The fact that a shop that’s so invested in our community has won an award that spans all of Minneapolis bodes very well for our future, and helps us stake our claim as an excellent sneaker scene. read more

If I Could Only Save Three Shoes

Hypothetical situation: Your house/apartment is burning down. If you live with anyone else, they’ve gotten out safe, and you’ve taken most of your stuff out with you…except for your shoes. And you’re running low on time. Like really low on time. You’ve got just enough time to go back in and get three pairs of your kicks out. What would you take? Well, if I could only save three shoes out of my whole collection, these are the shoes that I’d pick.
